Nigeria Archery President Now an Executive Member of Federation of African Archery (FAA)





FAA Extraordinary congress held on 10 November 2018, at the Congress; World Archery Africa approved a system of staggered elections. The Congress was held in Cairo, Egypt on 10 November. 2018 

The staggered elections system was adopted in order to prevent inactive council members from impeding the ability of the Continental Federation to function. Following the adoption of the new system on the FAA Statute, the Federation conducted elections to implement the new system straight away and at the elections the following members became new executives of the FAA as listed below:

Wesley John Gates (South Africa), Abdullahi Mohammed Baba (Nigeria) and Jean Beya Wa Kabenga (DR Congo) were elected as council members for a four-year term until 2022.
Essis Mi-Careme Moise (Ivory Coast)  elected as vice president for the western region and Heidi Reddig (Namibia) as vice president for the south until 2022.
Mohamed Charif (Morocco) was elected as vice president for the north for a two-year term until 2020.
East vice president Al-Yousouf Bayjou (Mauritius) was elected as first vice president of World Archery Africa, also for a two-year term until 2020.
Extensions were added to three positions in order to stagger upcoming elections. President Alaa Eldin Gabr (Egypt), and council members Ahmed Tarik Amiry (Sudan) and Tabassum Anwar (Kenya) will remain in their post for an additional two years until 2020.
World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen attended the extraordinary congress. He congratulated delegates on the performance of African athletes at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Archery will be included in the African Games for the first time in 2019 when the tournament will act as a continental qualification event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Nigerian Archery President Elected Deputy Secretary General of Nigeria Olympic Committee

The Nigeria Olympic Elections took place in Adamawa state in December and at the NOC meeting Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, president of the Nigeria Archery Federation, was elected deputy secretary general of the Nigerian Olympic Committee on 20 December in the city of Yola.
He will serve in the position for a four-year term.

Abdullahi has been president of Nigeria’s archery Federation since March 2016. He is also CEO of Nigeria Olympic Hospitality House and a board member of World Archery Africa.
He was previously first vice president of the Association of West African Wrestling and president of the Traditional Sports Federation in Nigeria. 

His professional background is in marketing and business development.
